Learning English in a country where English is a second language will be very challenging. The learners do not have sufficient input from the environment as English is not used widely in the society. Consequently, learners mostly gained the English input from the educational institutions formally. In this point, the learning materials should meet the students' characteristics and knowledge.
- If the students have not gained their confidence in speaking English, start the English practice by negotiation. Let the students choose something that they love to. The freedom of choosing the learning materials, media, and English performance mode will help the learners to be relax and of course, far from assignment pressure.
- When the learners gradually establish their confidence, start to set a topic and let them respond the topic based on their creativity. For example, the topic is a broadcasting topic, then let the students to decide what they wanna construct. Here is one of the examples.
However, some learners may struggle to learn English independently outside the classes through many ways such as listening their favourite English songs, watching English movie, reading English book or magazine, and many more. Therefore, practicing English in and outside the classes will be valuable for building the learners' confidence in their target language.
